TECHNICAL BULLETIN - SCLSR4 CLEAR SAFETY FILM
Description
Optically clear polyester safety film to be applied to the interior surface of windows to provide a strong invisible skin to retain fragments resulting from glass in explosions, accidential damage, human impact, vandalism and natural disasters.
Construction
SCLSR4 is a single ply film forming a flexible armoured shield, as clear as glass and with tremendous strength. A range of solar tinted safety films are available.
Adhesive
The adhesive is acrylic pressure senitive and as a result, no separate adhesive solution is required for installation. A unique coating technique applies the adhesive which remains clear after installation. Non-reactive to condensation, light stable and long ageing, the adhesive system ensures long life performance.
Applications
The performance of Safety Glazing Materials is evaluated by a standard test which simulates human impact. Ordinary annealed glass is not a Safety Glazing Material because when broken by human impact, it shatters into jaggard shards which can cause injury.
When ordinary annealed glass is coated with Safety Film, it becomes a Safety Glazing Material, the strong pressure sensitive adhesive layer effectively strenghtens the glass, increases the shatter resistance through high shock absorbtion, retains broken fragments and reduces hazards and injury, thereby offering protection against bodily penertration and flying shards of broken glass.
Standards
SCLSR4 Safety Film when applied to the surface of 3mm thick or better ordinary annealed glass as per manufacturer instructions will meet the following standards:
1. Australian Standard 2208 as a grade "A" Safety Glazing Material
2. British Standard 6206 1981 as a Class "C" Safety Glass
3. American National Standards Institute 297.1 1975 as a Safety Glazing Material in the "Unlimited" classification.
4. British Standard 476-Fire Resistance-BS476 fire propagation and ignitability test classification "not easily ignitable" giving up to 25 minutes integrity and 32 minutes stability.
